Don’t believe everything you read in the papers…

In February, the newspapers went to town reporting on the lack of snow in the Alps. But it wasn’t all doom and gloom, and whilst we had no snowfall in February, we still ski’d until the end and April bought record snow falls. We finished the season in beautiful conditions skiing, in powder with 3m of snow on the glacier.

We can’t deny that February was dry and some resorts were switching skis for bikes, but what wasn’t reported were the resorts that faired well during this time and the two major factors driving it – altitude and elevation.

Les Arcs and La Plagne were two of them and whilst skiing in February was a bit icier, all the pistes were open and the weather had no impact on the guests. Montchavin-Les Coches is North facing too, so it doesn’t suffer from snow melt and because we have lift access to two glaciers we are snow sure even in the driest times.

The moral of the story is get up high and stay north-facing. We had guests cancelling Morzine and coming to Paradiski. We had good snow down to 1450m until the end of the season and the owner of the local ski shop, who grew up here and lives in Montchavin-Les Coches, reported it was the best April for snow in 40 years. What a way to end the season!
