Why do so few guests drive to the Alps?

The honest answer is we don’t really know, but having spoken to guests it could come down to the habit of flying and the comfort of sticking with the status quo. There’s sometimes an expectation that going on holiday means going on a plane.

Since we took over the business, we have been back and forth from the UK and find driving to be much more enjoyable and easier than we thought it would be. Okay you pay for it in tolls but the roads in France flow, the service stations are set up with picnic and kids play areas and the countryside is beautiful.

The journey time from Calais is about 9 hours with in good traffic and we often leave the day before and stay in Dijon North. This breaks up the journey into a 5h 30 drive, leaving just 3h 30 on the last day. There are many benefits of driving but the main ones are it saves you time and stress. You get into resort early on a Saturday after a good nights sleep and you feel fresh, as you haven’t had an early start and you miss all the traffic. If you purchase a Paradiski lift pass, you also have the opportunity to ski on Saturday afternoons for free.

Tolls cost approximately €80 for a car and there are plenty of cheap hotels in Dijon.
